Quantum Indians

About The Quantum Indians
(from The Quantum Indians on Facebook - slightly modified by editor)
In the early part of the 20th century and over 20 years before India’s independence, three remarkable Indian scientists revolutionized the worlds of Physics and Science. Satyendra Nath Bose, C.V.Raman and Meghnad Saha gave the world three remarkable discoveries and theories that would change Physics and India forever.
Today, Bose-Einstein Statistics, Bose Einstein Condensation Phenomenon (BEC), bosons, the Raman Effect, and the Saha Equation are part of the edifice of modern Physics and have been responsible for some major breakthroughs in Quantum Physics and Astrophysics in the 20th and 21st centuries including the discovery of the Higgs Boson Particle, the splitting of light and the high temperature ionization of elements.
All three scientists initially taught at the University of Calcutta, all went on to become leading Indian scientists and teachers, all became Fellows of the Royal Society (Saha 1927; Bose 1958; and CV Raman 1924), and one of them was the recipient India’s only Nobel Prize for Science (CV Raman, Nobel Prize Laureate for Physics 1930).
“The Quantum Indians” is an important, compelling and timely International documentary film that explores how these three brilliant Indian minds emerged out of the colonial shackles of British rule and racial prejudices to have such an impact on the World of Science.
It is important for Indians everywhere to celebrate their accomplishments and for the World to take notice once again of the Indian contribution to Science.
In this 52-minute film, audiences will explore their individual biographies, their collective impact on the world of physics and their legacy in Indian science and world history. By using their own words, archival imagery and footage, interviews with leading Indian scientists and historians and animated visualizations using cutting edge graphics and CGI to demonstrate their their theories, we will construct a complete picture of these 3 remarkable men.
The Quantum Indians is written and directed by filmmaker Raja Choudhury and produced by Rajiv Mehrotra for PSBT and the Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India.
The film is Winner of the 2014 National Film Award and the 2014 Golden Beaver from Vigyan Prashar for Best Science Film of 2013.
