SN Bose Timeline covers the life, times, events and people during the lifetime and beyond of Satyendra Nath Bose.

1894, 1 January
Satyendra Nath Bose born 

Bose is born in his ancestral home, 22 Iswar Mill Lane, Goabagan in North Calcutta. The original house was modest, and was improved upon by the family over the first few decades of the 20th Century.

Bose is the only male child of his parents, followed by six sisters. His father, Surendranath (1868-1964) was an accountant in the Executive Engineering 
Department of the East India Railway. Surendranath later founded the Indian Chemical and Pharmaceutical Works, a small unit dealing in chemicals. Bose's mother, Amodini died in 1939.
In 1899 Bose is admitted to the Normal school in Normal School in north Calcutta.

1900, 7 October
Max Planck discovers Planck's Radiation Law

One week later, on 14 December, Max Planck (1858 to 1947)  gives his original derivation of the law, and lays foundation for quantum theory, now known as the Planck postulate.

Planck postulated "that electromagnetic energy could be emitted only in quantized form, in other words, the energy could only be a multiple of an elementary unit: E=hv where h is Planck's constant, also known as Planck's action quantum, and v is the frequency of radiation...In recognition of Planck's fundamental contribution to a new branch of physics, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for 1918 (received in 1919)."

1905 Einstein's annus mirabilis

Albert Einstein discovers special relativity, "that brought clarity to old physics and created a new physics, in particular Einstein's derivation of the relation E=mc^2.

1905, 16 October 
Partition of Bengal

The day is declared a day of mourning throughout Bengal, with a day's fast, a closure of shops and institutions, people tying rakhis on each other's hads, demonstrations, and two huge rallies, giving a fillip to the Swadeshi movement.
